The entire process of construction of the Yima Gasification Plant: The long-flame coal from the Yima coalfield features low sulfur content, good reactivity, high volatility, and non-caking properties, making it an excellent raw material for coal chemical processing. In 1984, the Coal Industry Department of Henan Province, the Department of Urban and Rural Construction and Environmental Protection, and Yima Mining Bureau jointly formed a leadership team for the Yima large-scale gasification project, and initiated a feasibility study on constructing this gasification project using long-flame coal as raw material; extensive work such as investigations and evaluations was carried out in the preliminary stage. In 1992, the Yima gasification project was designated as one of the 20 revitalization projects in Henan Province, and the leading group for gasification projects in Henan Province began work on its preparation. In December 1992, the China National Coal Administration approved the Yima Coal Mining Bureau to undertake the construction and operation of the gas supply plant for the Yima Gasification Project, and that same month the feasibility study report for the Yima Gasification Project passed expert evaluation. The Yima gasification project includes a gas production plant, a 194-kilometer gas pipeline running from Yima to Luoyang and Zhengzhou, as well as pipeline networks in the three cities of Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Yima. The total investment in this project is nearly 2.9 billion yuan; it generates 1.2 million standard cubic meters of gas per day. The gas produced can meet the heating needs of 600,000 households along the route in cities such as Sanmenxia, Luoyang, and Zhengzhou. This project also allows for the saving of over 10 million tons-kilometers of railway transportation capacity each year, reduces emissions of harmful gases by 30,000 tons, dust by 18,000 tons, and ash by 186,000 tons. The Yima coal gasification project is the first large-scale diversified coal processing project among the nationally coordinated coal mines in China, with $63 million in loans provided by the Australian government. In February 1993, a delegation from the Australian government for the Yima gasification project visited the Yima mining area for an on-site inspection. In April 1994, the business negotiations for the Yima gasification project were concluded; a preliminary signing ceremony was held on April 21 at the Great Wall Hotel in Beijing, and the official signing took place on June 9 at the Australian Parliament House in Sydney. As this was the largest loan granted by the Australian government that year, a photo of the Yima Mining Bureau’s office building was displayed at the Australian Parliament House during the signing of the loan agreement. That month, the State Council entrusted the **Planning Commission to approve the Yima gasification project via Document No. (1994) 775. On September 30, 1994, the Construction Command Office for the Gasification Project of Yima Mining Bureau was established. Yima Mining Bureau also held two chemical engineering training courses in Wuhan to prepare specialized talent for gasification projects. On October 29, 1996, Henan Province Gas (Group) Co., Ltd. was established. On April 7, 1997, construction began on the gas supply plant for the Yima gasification project. Ye Qing, Deputy Director of the Planning Commission (formerly Deputy Minister of the Coal Industry Ministry), attended the ceremony to cut the ribbon, and the Yima Mining Bureau organized more than 10,000 employees to participate in this grand opening ceremony. In February 2001, the first phase of the Yima gasification project was completed and began to supply gas. On September 29, 2004, the construction of the second phase of the Yima gasification project began. By September 2006, this second phase was completed, with a daily output of 3 million standard cubic meters of clean gas, making it the largest artificial gas production facility in Asia. On December 5, 2008, Henan Gas Group, together with Yongmei Group, Heemei Group, Jiaomei Group, Zhongyuan Dahuahua and other enterprises, was reorganized to form Henan Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. In November 2013, the product structure upgrade project at the Yima Gasification Plant was put into operation, marking the onset of an era centered on natural gas. The plant produces 3 million standard cubic meters of net gas per day, as well as 233 million standard cubic meters of natural gas. Additionally, it can produce 300,000 tons of methanol, 200,000 tons of dimethyl ether, 300,000 tons of acetic acid, 120,000 tons of liquid ammonia, 150,000 tons of dilute nitric acid, 200,000 tons of ammonium nitrate, and 80,000 tons of by-products such as liquid oxygen and liquid argon each year.
