Give praise and encouragement to the achievements made in China’s chemical engineering technology and equipment; your participation in discussions is the greatest encouragement. **********************【Ten Years of Great Development in Chemical Engineering Equipment】Regular updates and summaries are available – feel free to join the discussions: https://bbs.hcbbs.com/thread-3576046-1-1.html ***************** It was recently reported that Fujian United Petrochemical Company has achieved an innovative breakthrough: the “aromatic hydrocarbons low-temperature high-efficiency recovery technology and related equipment” it tested was successfully included in the **Fourth Batch of Major Technical Equipment List issued by the Energy Bureau, marking an important advancement in the use of low-temperature waste heat in the petrochemical industry. This “energy magic” can recover an amount of energy equivalent to 93,000 tons of standard coal each year, generating direct economic benefits of around 160 million yuan. At the production site of the aromatic compounds complex, 8 new compressor units are operating smoothly, converting the low-pressure steam generated during production into a valuable resource, which is continuously fed into the steam network for unified utilization. It is reported that previously, the thermal energy at the top of the aromatic compounds processing unit was cooled using air cooling, resulting in low efficiency and energy waste. Fujian United Petrochemical Company, in collaboration with Sinopec Engineering Construction Company and CSIC 711 Institute, is implementing the low-temperature heat utilization renovation project for the aromatic compounds complex in phases. In this renovation project, a high-flow, high-discharge-pressure, high-power screw steam heat pump unit developed independently by CSIC 711 Institute is innovatively utilized. A steam generator is used in place of the traditional air cooler to recover low-temperature heat for steam generation. The original low-pressure steam is then heated and pressurized to the required conditions, turning into high-quality steam that can be fully utilized in its own equipment or in other devices. The three units of Phase 1 of the low-temperature heat utilization renovation project for the aromatic compounds complex were put into operation in 2021, and by the end of 2024, a total of 220,000 tons of standard coal were saved. After more than a year of technical efforts and optimization of operating procedures, the 5 units of the second phase project also came online by the end of 2024. Thus, the low-temperature heat utilization renovation project for the aromatic compounds complex has been fully put into operation. “Nearly two months since the full operation of the low-temperature heat utilization renovation project began, it has significantly improved the energy efficiency of the aromatic compounds processing plant. The energy consumption figures meet the expectations set by this technical upgrade, enabling the plant to achieve a competitive level comparable to that of similar plants in China. ”said Li Zeng, the technical leader of the aromatic compounds integrated plant.
To make full use of the low-temperature heat resources in the aromatic compounds processing plant and enhance the plant’s overall competitiveness, the company has launched a project to utilize this low-temperature heat. In collaboration with relevant parties, this project will be carried out in two phases: steam generators will be used in place of air cooling to recover the waste heat from the top of the recovery towers, and compressors will be employed to convert low-quality steam into high-quality steam, thereby enabling efficient utilization of low-quality steam. The Low-Temperature Heat Utilization Improvement Project (Phase I) was put into operation in 2021, and thanks to its outstanding performance, Fujian United Petrochemical was recognized as a **\"Leader\" in energy efficiency for key industries for 2023**. On November 25, 2024, the low-temperature heat utilization renovation project (Phase II) was completed, and the last unit was put into operation on December 29, 2024. Throughout this period, the team worked closely together with various specialized groups, each performing its own duties, and promptly identified and resolved issues that arose during the trial operation phase, thus ensuring that the units could be connected to the grid successfully. Furthermore, the team explored the operational potential further by optimizing the operating conditions of the distillation towers and increasing the steam pressure at the compressor inlet. This not only improved the quality of the steam produced but also reduced the electrical consumption of the units. It has been calculated that the two units in Phase 1 can save nearly 50,000 kWh of electricity per day, resulting in significant benefits.
