In 2024, the added value of China’s marine chemical industry was 445.3 billion yuan. According to the Statistical Bulletin on China’s Marine Economy for 2024 released by the Ministry of Natural Resources on February 20, the preliminary estimate shows that the total marine economic output for that year was 10,543.8 billion yuan, an increase of 5.9% compared to the previous year. This growth rate was 0.9 percentage points higher than that of the GDP, with the marine economy accounting for 7.8% of the total GDP. The communique shows that in 2024, the added value of the 15 marine industries amounted to 4,373.3 billion yuan, an increase of 7.5% compared with the previous year. Among them, the offshore oil and gas industry generated an added value of 254.2 billion yuan, a 5.8% increase compared with the previous year; the production of offshore crude oil and natural gas increased by 4.7% and 8.7% respectively on a year-on-year basis. Affected by weather conditions and structural adjustments in the industry, sea salt production declined. The marine salt industry generated an added value of 3.9 billion yuan for the whole year, a 1.2% decrease compared to the previous year. According to the communique, with the implementation of structural adjustment policies in the chemical industry, the production of salt-based products such as soda ash and caustic soda, as well as refined petroleum chemical products, has continued to increase. The marine chemical industry has seen steady and rapid growth, achieving an added value of 445.3 billion yuan in 2024, a 6.6% increase compared to the previous year.
