The technology for the highly selective oxidation of n-(iso)butyraldehyde to n-(iso)butyric acid was subject to an evaluation of its scientific and technological achievements; this evaluation was carried out on May 12, 2025. The expert group carefully reviewed relevant technical documents such as the work report, research report, and application report on this scientific and technological achievement, and thoroughly examined the associated technical materials. The review committee unanimously agreed that the overall technology of this achievement is at the leading level in China, and its product quality indicators meet international advanced standards. The technology for the highly selective oxidation of n-(iso)butyraldehyde to n-(iso)butyric acid was developed jointly by Jiangsu Huachang Chemical Co., Ltd., Zhangjiagang Huachang New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., and Suzhou Huachang Daote Chemical Technology R&D Co., Ltd., with a pilot plant capable of producing 400 tons per year being built. This project designs a multi-stage loop jet reactor, establishes an oxidizing reaction auxiliary system, and develops a hydrolysis reaction-distillation coupled process to separate and purify n-butyric acid and isobutyric acid products; the purity of the products is ≥99.7%, with a yield of n-butyric acid of ≥99% and a yield of isobutyric acid of ≥95%. The device operates stably, with mild reaction conditions and high safety. It is reported that the pilot project for n-butyric acid (isobutyric acid) is an important part of Huachang Chemical’s efforts to expand the acrylic acid – n-butylaldehyde – n-butyric acid industrial chain, to diversify its product range, enhance the company’s core competitiveness, and strengthen and extend this industrial chain.
