On the morning of August 15, the inauguration ceremony for the Henan Silicon Carbide Functional Materials Industry Research Institute was held in the plaza on the first floor of Zhongyi Chuangxin Company. Leaders of Zhongyi Chuangxin and Yicheng New Materials, members of their leadership teams, as well as management personnel at or above the deputy section level attended the unveiling ceremony. The unveiling ceremony was presided over by Li Wei, deputy general manager of Zhongyi Chuangxin. Dong Jianxun, executive director and manager of Yicheng New Materials as well as deputy general manager of Zhongyi Chuangxin, provided an introduction to the basic situation of the Henan Silicon Carbide Functional Materials Industry Research Institute. Sun Yi, chairman of Zhongyi Chuangxin, and Dong Jianxun, executive director, manager of Yicheng New Materials, as well as executive vice general manager of Zhongyi Chuangxin, jointly unveiled the plaque for the Henan Silicon Carbide Functional Materials Industry Research Institute. The Industrial Research Institute was approved for construction by the Henan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology on January 14, 2025, with a construction period of three years. Led by Yicheng New Materials, and jointly developed by Zhongyi Chuangxin and Xichuan Sanze Company, it relies on various research platforms and teams such as the CNAS-accredited laboratory for silicon carbide micropowder, the Zhejiang University-Pingmei Shenma Silicon Carbide Semiconductor Joint Laboratory, the Henan Province Crystal Silicon Cutting Tool Engineering Technology Research Center, the Henan Province Enterprise Technology Center, and the Pingdingshan City Silicon Carbide Material Pilot Production Base. It is the second provincial-level industry research institute under China Pingmei Shenma Group and the third such institute in Pingdingshan City. The Industrial Research Institute is positioned as a think tank for the silicon carbide industry, a technology R&D platform, a center for technological innovation, and a base for the commercialization of innovations. The key areas for development are silicon carbide semiconductors, silicon carbide abrasives, silicon carbide ceramics, and silicon carbide additives. Currently, the key research projects under way at the Industrial Research Institute include the 2024 Industrial Joint Fund project funded by the Henan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, titled “Industrialization Demonstration of Third-Generation Semiconductor Silicon Carbide Materials”; the 2023 Central Government-Backed Local Joint Fund project funded by the same department, aimed at developing silicon carbide semiconductor demonstration lines; the development of optical-grade silicon carbide powder production processes; and the optimization of ceramic-grade silicon carbide powder production processes. It is expected that by 2028, the framework for collaborative innovation, scientific research and development, and industrial incubation will be initially established, enabling it to serve as a demonstration base for the industrialization of key common, fundamental, cutting-edge, and revolutionary technologies related to silicon carbide functional materials across the country.
