There are a total of 12 academicians from North China; 2 from Beijing, 2 from Tianjin, 5 from Hebei Province, 1 from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and 2 from Shanxi Province. Duan Xue from Beijing: An applied chemist who has long been engaged in research in applied chemistry. She conducts applied basic and engineering research in the areas of “interlayer structure design oriented toward product performance” and “control of the intercalation process oriented toward product manufacturing”. Born in Beijing in January 1957. Graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Jilin University in 1982, and obtained a doctorate from the Department of Chemistry at Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology in 1988. Elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. Yang Xiurong: Analytical chemist, mainly engaged in research on electroanalytical chemistry, biomolecular recognition, and microfluidic analysis. Born in Beijing on April 17, 1946. He graduated from the Department of Modern Chemistry at the University of Science and Technology of China in 1968, and obtained his doctorate from the Department of Chemistry at Lund University in Sweden in 1991. In 2013, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Cheng Jinpei from Tianjin: an organic chemist who mainly focuses on the research of physical organic chemistry. Born in Tianjin on June 1, 1948. Graduated from Tianjin Normal University in 1975, obtained a master’s degree from Nankai University in 1981, and received a doctorate from Northwestern University in the United States in 1987. Elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. Won Young-jin: Synthetic biologist, mainly engaged in research in synthetic biology. Born in Tianjin in October 1963. Graduated from Tianjin University in 1984, and obtained a master’s and a doctor’s degree from the same university in 1987 and 1991 respectively. Elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2021.
Guo Zijian from Hebei Province: A chemical biologist who mainly focuses on the chemical biology of metals and their complexes. Born in Hejian City, Hebei Province in October 1961. Graduated from Hebei Agricultural University in 1982, and obtained a doctorate from the University of Padua in Italy in 1994. In 2017, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Han Buxing: Physical chemist who has long been engaged in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of chemical thermodynamics and green chemistry. Born on July 20, 1957, in Zunhua City, Hebei Province. He graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Hebei University of Science and Technology (formerly Hebei Institute of Chemical Technology) in 1982. In 1985, he obtained a master’s degree from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and in 1988, he earned a doctorate from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2013, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Huang Chunhui: Inorganic chemist, whose main research areas are rare earth coordination chemistry and molecular-based functional membrane materials. Born on May 4, 1933, in Xingtai, Hebei. Graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Peking University in 1955. Elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. Yang Wantai: A polymer chemist who mainly engages in methodological research on the synthesis and modification chemistry of polymeric materials. Born in October 1956 in Cheng’an County, Hebei Province. Graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University in 1982, obtained a master’s degree from Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology in 1985, and received a doctorate from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden in 1996. In 2017, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Zhang Yukui: Analytical chemist, mainly engaged in research on the basic theories of chromatography as well as new technologies and methods. Born on September 13, 1942, in Baoding, Hebei. Graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Nankai University in 1965. Elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003
Zhao Jincai from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region: An environmental chemist who mainly focuses on research related to the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants with low concentrations, high toxicity, and difficulty in degradation, as well as the mechanisms underlying this process. Born in December 1960 in Fengzhen City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. He graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Inner Mongolia University in July 1982, obtained a master’s degree from the same university in August 1986, and received a doctorate from Meisei University in Japan in April 1994. Elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011. Li Hongzhong from Shanxi Province: An expert in chemical engineering, mainly engaged in research on gas-solid fluidization. Born in Xiyang, Shanxi in 1941. He graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Taiyuan University of Technology in 1965. In 1981, he obtained a master’s degree from the University of Science and Technology of China, and in 1986, he earned a doctorate from the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2005, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Li Jinghai: An expert in chemical engineering, primarily engaged in research on the quantitative design and scale-up of particle-fluid two-phase systems. Born on October 25, 1956, in Jingle, Shanxi. Graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology with a degree in Thermal Energy Engineering in 1982, and obtained a master’s degree from the same institution in 1984. In 1987, he obtained a doctorate from the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (now the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences). Elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999.
