For a project nowadays, there is no process package; it’s just the client’s boss who tells us what needs to be produced, what materials are required, to what temperature they should be raised, and how long the reaction should last Is it reasonable to proceed directly with the engineering design in this way?

If there’s no process package available, then design one. Find out clearly what requirements the boss has; if there are no requirements at all, then you should propose your own conditions. The conditions you propose must be met by the boss, and if he doesn’t agree, then you need to adjust your design according to what he can provide
If you don’t have a process package and aren’t familiar with this process, then it’s probably a mistake to ask you to carry out the design~~~
Many small businesses and workshops do not have process packages, and often the client feels that their processes need to be kept confidential, so they won’t provide detailed descriptions to you. Therefore, if you lack certain information in the early stages of design, you can ask the client for it. If the client truly cannot provide it, you should offer them several alternative options, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each, and prepare a communication summary. Only after getting confirmation from all parties should you proceed with the design, to avoid disputes later on.

If you can’t figure out the situation, how can you do design? Every product has its own unique features. If you haven’t done it before, you should still approach it with caution. Carefully study its manufacturing process, or obtain experimental data through pilot tests to ensure reliability.
Process design without a process package for chemical reactions is not possible; it involves heat transfer, mass transfer, and reactions – so how should these be calculated and what components should be selected? Physical processes are better!
The absence of a process package does not necessarily mean that engineering design cannot be carried out. I know some university professors who, along with their students, conduct research projects; using the data obtained from laboratory experiments, they register companies to start businesses. The mentor becomes the general manager, and of course, the core technical details are not disclosed to the design institute; it’s necessary to communicate repeatedly with the teacher in order to turn their ideas into practical designs. Of course, the core process flow of such a design will be correct; the control system requires creative thinking, and energy and material consumption can be given more consideration for now – as long as it’s possible to scale up the laboratory process flow.
