Product definition and microstructure TPV, the full name of thermoplastic dynamic vulcanized rubber, uses polypropylene PP as the continuous plastic matrix, ethylene propylene diene monomer EPDM It is an elastic soft phase. Relying on the high-temperature dynamic vulcanization blending process, the cross-linked rubber particles are evenly dispersed in the PP substrate to form a classic island microstructure. TPV with EPDM/PP as the base material is the mainstream product, accounting for 80% to 90% of the domestic market. The appearance of the product is mostly off-white or light yellow opaque particles, with a dry surface and no grease precipitation. It has the dual characteristics of vulcanized rubber with high sealing elasticity and thermoplastic plastics that can be processed repeatedly and scraps can be recycled. 2. Performance advantages 1. Excellent temperature resistance: The long-term use range of general brands is - 60℃~130℃, and it can withstand high temperatures of 150℃ in the short term. ; The long-term use limit of ordinary styrenic TPE is only about 80°C, and it is easy to soften and deform in high-temperature environments. 2. Oil and acid and alkali resistant: The cross-linked EPDM structure can be soaked in engine oil, vehicle fuel, and dilute acid and alkali media for a long time, and has a small swelling range. It is the preferred raw material for automobile oil line sealing. 3. Stable compression and rebound: According to the ASTM D395 compression permanent deformation test, the resilience performance of TPV is much better than that of ordinary TPE. It is not prone to permanent deformation under long-term continuous pressure, ensuring long-term anti-leakage of seals. 4. Weather-resistant and anti-aging: Resistant to ozone and ultraviolet erosion, it can be used stably in outdoor open-air conditions for 5 to 10 years without cracking and powdering. It is widely used in door and window strips and outdoor pipes. 5. Environmentally friendly and recyclable: The mainstream formula is halogen-free and does not contain o-benzene plasticizers. The food-modified grade can be used for kitchenware accessories, and 100% of the production scraps can be recycled. 6. Outstanding processing efficiency: It does not require long-term high-temperature vulcanization of traditional rubber, and can be directly injected, extruded, and secondary overmolded. The overall production efficiency is increased by more than 60% compared with traditional vulcanized rubber. 3. Application areas 3.1 Automotive industry TPV is the core raw material for automotive seals. The products are used in door seals, lamp seals, engine oil-resistant dustproof sheaths, cooling water pipes, vehicle wiring harnesses, and power battery shock-absorbing sealing accessories. The expansion of the new energy automobile industry continues to drive automotive demand. 3.2 Building materials are used in door and window waterproof strips, curtain wall sealing strips, floor heating shock-absorbing gaskets, water supply and drainage sealing rings, and have become standard raw materials for building sealing due to their long-term weather resistance. 3.3 Electronic home appliances and electric tool handles are covered with rubber, electrical appliances waterproof sealing rings, high temperature resistant cable sheaths, washing machine and refrigerator door seal accessories. 3.4 Daily and medical high-temperature-resistant kitchenware accessories, medical anti-slip gaskets, environmentally friendly hoses, and low-extraction modified products are gradually expanding the medical consumables track. 4. Comparison between TPV and ordinary TPE 1. Different synthesis mechanisms: Ordinary TPE relies on SBS/SEBS physical melt blending, without rubber chemical cross-linking in the entire process. ; TPV relies on dynamic vulcanization to achieve chemical cross-linking of EPDM, which is the essential difference between the two. 2. Differentiation of terminal performance: Ordinary TPE has poor heat resistance, is prone to oil migration, and is not resistant to mineral oil. It is mostly used in affordable toys and ordinary daily handles. ; TPV is oil-resistant and heat-resistant, has low precipitation, rebound and durability, and is positioned as a mid-to-high-end sealing product. 5. The production process raw materials are composed of PP and EPDM with vulcanization additives and functional fillers. The mainstream in the industry adopts the continuous twin-screw dynamic vulcanization process. The processing temperature is controlled at 180~220°C. Rubber cross-linking, mixing and dispersion, and extrusion granulation are completed simultaneously in the closed screw cavity. ; The old intermittent internal mixing process is gradually being phased out by domestic small and medium-sized factories due to poor stability and high energy consumption. 6. Global benchmark for mainstream manufacturing companies: Domestic Dawn Group, overseas Celanese (Santoprene) ; In the domestic market, in addition to Dawn Group, there are many chemical companies that are engaged in the production of general-grade TPV, and most of their products are oriented to the fields of building materials and daily products. 7. Product Cost and Profit TPV production costs are mainly composed of EPDM and PP petrochemical basic raw materials superimposed on energy consumption and processing fees. The ex-factory price of products fluctuates cyclically with the market prices of crude oil and upstream chemical monomers. ; Large enterprises with integrated raw material support have better cost and risk resistance than small and medium-sized processing plants that purchase raw materials from outside. 8. Industry development trends 1. High-end products: The development of new energy vehicles has driven up the demand for low-VOC, high-temperature resistant special automotive grade TPV, and the industry's R&D focus has shifted from general building materials to automotive modified products. ; 2.
