What do 10D in front and 5D behind mean for a vortex flow meter?
Ensuring a straight pipe section mainly serves to stabilize the flow. \"Ten before and five after\" means that there should be a straight pipe section with a diameter ten times that of the gauge in front of it, and a straight pipe section with a diameter five times that of the gauge behind it.
D refers to the diameter; these are the straight pipe sections before and after that are required for installation. If the required straight pipe section is not achieved, it will cause interference signals in the instrument. It causes measurement errors.

It refers to the requirements for the straight pipe sections in the pipelines upstream and downstream of the flow meter installation. D stands for diameter; generally, the nominal outer diameter is sufficient. For example, for a DN50 flow meter, the straight pipe section upstream should be at least 500 mm long, and that downstream should be at least 250 mm long. A straight pipe section means that there should be no changes in diameter, no bends, no control valves, and no inserted temperature sensors.
I’ve seen that some flowmeters have more stringent requirements; there are those that require 17D at the beginning and 5D at the end as well
