The on-site display of the Yokogawa DY040 vortex flowmeter shows a value of 8 cubic meters per hour; its range is 0–30 cubic meters. However, there is no signal output – the measured current is only 1.7 mA, and the voltage is 23.6 VDC. What could be the problem?
This circuit should be a 4-wire system; if you measure 23V, it’s likely that the output current wires are connected incorrectly. Or a surge; a damaged safety barrier causes an open circuit.

Possible faults: 1) Insufficient power supply to the instrument’s sensor; 2) The flow rate inside the pipeline is too low or there is no fluid flow ; Solution: 1) Check whether the wiring of the instrument sensor is normal ; 2) Locate the valve and open it slowly ; 2. Possible faults: 1) Excessive vibration in the pipeline where the vortex flow meter is installed ; 2) The sensitivity of the vortex flow meter is set too high ; 3) Damaged circuit board ; 4) Large pressure fluctuations ; 5) The vortex sound generator has attachments ; Treatment method: 1) Strengthen the pipeline in a triangular pattern, and then reinforce it at a 2D distance upstream of the vortex flow meter ; 2) Reduce the sensitivity of the instrument ; 3) ) Replace ; 4) Measure the pressure and adjust it to the normal value ; 5) Clean the vortex generator of the vortex flow meter ; 4. Fault symptoms: Large error in vortex flowmeter readings. Possible faults: 1) The distance between the straight sections upstream and downstream of the vortex flowmeter does not meet the required standards ; 2) The instrument constant of the vortex flow meter is set incorrectly ; 3) Attachments upstream of the vortex sound generator ; Solution 1): Change the installation location and select a new installation site as required by the instructions ; 2) Recalibrate the instrument constants of the vortex flow meter ; 3) Clean the vortex generator of the vortex flow meter ;
Is it because the transmission distance is too long and the voltage is insufficient?
OP, was this issue resolved later? What’s the reason?
Yokogawa’s vortex flowmeters are all two-wire type; where did you learn that they are four-wire type?
It is very likely that there is a poor connection somewhere in the circuit, resulting in too high an impedance. Or there is a leakage in the circuit of the instrument.
