Will air leakage occur if the tank level is below 20%, and what about when it’s above 80%? Is there any basis for this?
Above 80%, the risk of tank overflow is high.
You haven’t been clear enough – which storage tank? I’m guessing what you’re trying to ask is why a high and low liquid level interlock is installed in the storage tank? Generally, the high-level interlock is designed to prevent liquid from entering the system, such as the compressor. Additionally, when the liquid level is high, there is less space for separation and flashing, resulting in poor separation efficiency. The purpose of the low-level interlock is, as you mentioned, to prevent high pressure in the gas from dropping to low pressure. Moreover, if there is a pump at the outlet, it is necessary to ensure an appropriate liquid level
I see that for many gas-liquid separators, the liquid level limits are set between 20% and 80%. Is there a reason behind these two values? Why are it always these two numbers?
Generally, it’s best not to let it run out of fluid; pumps with a pump mechanism are prone to running dry and damaging themselves. Don’t fill it to the brim, otherwise the medium will flow into the next section, which can cause accidents similar to those that occur when liquid enters the compressor. The 20% and 80% settings are probably intended for better control, to provide a reaction time. There may also be some differences under different operating conditions.
