At our company, we use capillary double-flange level gauges for measuring the level in hot coal and flash tanks in our polyester production processes. The design specifies the use of 704 silicone oil, but none of these gauges provide accurate readings. We have also attempted to use insulation for the capillaries, but that didn’t help either. I would like to ask those who work in this industry: what type of silicone oil do you use?

An inaccurate reading from the instrument shouldn’t be closely related to the silicone oil used for filling; rather, it is the temperature being measured that affects the type of oil used for filling. There are many reasons for inaccurate measurements, but the type of oil used generally doesn’t have a significant impact. For silicone oil, temperature is the main factor to consider; if it isn’t resistant enough to high temperatures, it would have broken down long ago. Another reason is the measurement range and migration settings; measurement issues have also arisen due to insulation problems, cooling issues, as well as problems inherent in the equipment’s design and manufacturing process.

The effects of vacuum level and temperature on silicone oil need to be considered. But as far as I know, using double flanges in polyester polycondensation can cause problems, but I haven’t heard of any issues with them in other types of equipment
Check if it’s a problem with the installation – is the transmitter installed on the high-pressure side? Also, check regarding migration and whether the ranges are correct.
Using this medium with this device is the right choice; if that doesn’t work, switch to a magnetic flap
Silicone oil merely serves to transmit pressure; to describe the specific operating conditions, consider replacing it with a magnetostrictive level gauge, which can be installed either from above or from the side.
