Is the price difference between S-type compensation wires and K-type compensation wires as well as shielded cables significant? S is definitely the most expensive option, but I’m not very familiar with K. It mainly comes down to whether a temperature transmitter is included or not with the thermocouple; personally, I don’t like this approach as it requires additional investment and more points that need maintenance.
Isn’t it common in the chemical industry to use heating for such processes? This way, DCS can also do without one type of card.
What card is missing? Isn’t it still 4-20ma after passing through the isolation barrier? Increase investment when the time comes, really.
Compensation wires are all cheap. If a transmitter is used, its quality must be good and it must be well waterproofed. If the meter cover is not opened for a long time, it may become difficult to unscrew.
For large-volume orders, the prices of compensating wires and shielded cables are similar. In my opinion, since there is a barrier in the control room, it’s not necessary to use temperature-sensitive elements on-site; the fewer intermediate steps, the better. But the current designs all use temperature changes on-site. When asked the designers why, their reply was that if you don’t want to use them, then don’t use them – it’s as if nothing was said at all. I thought it was to save money on compensation wires, but after asking, I found that the price of K-type compensation wires is roughly the same as that of shielded cables.
