When working with natural gas in the past, pressure gauges were connected using pressure gauge fittings of the 1/2\"NPT(M)–M20X1.5(F) type. Nowadays, in the chemical industry, butt-welded pressure gauge fittings of the BW ∅14/M20x1.5(F) type are more common. I would like to ask what are the differences between these two types of fittings?
You can just search for images of these two connectors on the web and compare them. Judging from the model, 1/2npt has external threads and needs to be screwed onto the valve at the root ; For butt-welding of type 14 pipes, without threads
Chemical industry high-pressure steam pipes are usually welded; flexible joints are prone to leakage
Butt welding is more commonly used as it has fewer leakage points. The quality of imported threaded connectors is good, but they are expensive; domestic ones are not very reliable.
The gauge connection fitting (1/2\" NPT(M) – M20X1.5(F)) can be connected directly to the equipment or pipes, while the butt-welded gauge fitting (BW ∅14/M20x1.5(F)) is connected through pressure transfer tubes
We use domestic ordinary union fittings; as long as the gasket is properly made from PTFE, there is no leakage at all. Moreover, the direction of the pressure gauge can be adjusted freely, which is quite convenient
