We have several vortex flowmeters that operate on steam here; the pipeline diameter is 65, and the flowmeter itself is also DN65. However, the designed flow rate is 1 ton. This meter always shows incorrect values when it’s not in use; according to the manufacturer’s instructions, the value that filters out interference signals was increased, but this causes those signals to be filtered out even when the meter is being used normally. It was only later that I found out that the measurement range for this gauge, based on this diameter, is 15 tons. Good heavens, whose fault is this? It’s the calculation documents provided by the design institute, and the manufacturer followed those documents to carry out the work. It’s a good thing it wasn’t me who bought it; otherwise I would have to take responsibility. Things like vortex streets, mass, electromagnetism, and rotors – can’t these all be determined based on the diameter of the pipe? I think design institutes should have parameter tables available for reference.

This situation is indeed quite rare; the design institute must be quite small, right? As is standard practice, the specific diameter of all flow meters and control valves needs to be determined through calculations. The design institute conducts preliminary calculations during the design process; it seems that this institute has not carried out these tasks or does not understand them.

In a factory that is designed and constructed according to standard practices, it’s common to see this situation: the pipes are laid out properly, but then there’s suddenly a small-diameter control valve in place ; Suddenly, a thermometer with a large diameter appeared ; Suddenly, there are small-bore flowmeters – these are quite common. Regarding the instruments, you just need to provide the process parameters and the desired diameter of the pipes; they have their own methods for making the calculations.
