Continuous oil level measurement is currently the mainstream approach: magnetic flap remote transmission type, ultrasonic, radar, and hydrostatic measurement. In terms of non-contact measurement methods, radar is expensive; could ultrasonic level gauges be a more cost-effective alternative? However, it’s unclear what the measurement accuracy and stability would be like in that case. Has anyone who has actually used it given some advice?

I work in the oil field sector. For measurements in tank areas, radar is generally used; magnetic level gauges have limitations in terms of height and their performance isn’t very good. Pressure-based gauges can be ruled out as well. They work okay for sewage, but over time they can affect the diaphragm and thus impact the measurement accuracy. Ultrasonic gauges – I’ve never used them nor seen anyone use them. Crude oil transportation requires heating; the tank contains a large amount of water vapor and even foam, so ultrasound is not an option
I see the lightning rod; is the gauge a servo level gauge?
In terms of precision, only a few options are available, such as radar, magnetostrictive, and servo. Is it worth saving that money for better accuracy? It’s possible that hundreds or even thousands of radars were lost, costing a lot of money.

Pressure-type level gauges have the longest continuous operation time without failures, require the least maintenance, and are the most stable type of level gauge. There is none other.
