During operation, the 203 overspeed protector in our company’s carbon dioxide compressor suddenly activated, triggering an interlocked shutdown. The ITCC speed of the unit is set to 3, and all three speeds are normal; the 203 overspeed protector is properly configured. The overspeed protector is a Woodward Protech 203. During tests conducted after disabling this interlock, the 203 overspeed protector issued overspeed shutdown signals multiple times even when the unit’s speed was normal. I’m not sure whether the overspeed protector can be repaired, and whether it will be reliable after repair.
Does the LED of 203 have self-diagnosis fault indications?
Your on-site configuration is really top-notch. Generally, using a TRICON PI card for overspeed protection is sufficient at the site; you have added a 203 as well for overspeed protection. It can be viewed on the LED: the current speed of each unit, the peak speed, the setpoint for the stop action, the number of teeth per revolution, or the reason for stopping
We should pay attention to the cause analysis; we have also installed a 203 overspeed protector, but no failures have occurred.

The warning 203 refers to speeding; it was noted during the first interlock shutdown, as both rotors were operating at excessive speeds and caused the shutdown. We have compressors from New Bilron with 30 teeth. The set parameters for 203 were also checked; this unit has been in operation for several years now. The reason is a false trigger of 203.
This unit is equipped with a 203 overspeed protector as well as a mechanical flyweight, which are the standard configurations for foreign-made units. Most compressors these days are not equipped with mechanical fly hammers. Multiple protections also increase the failure rate. Such equipment failures are difficult to handle.

Typical units are equipped with 6 speed probes, 3 input devices, 1 203 protector, 1 local display unit, and 2 ITCCs. It seems that the 203 device can only be reset and not repaired; it is recommended to check the speed probes to see if there is any interference in the wiring
