Who is responsible for setting the PID parameters of the control system? The design institute that developed the process package? Or an engineering company that works on construction drawings? Is it still the system manufacturer? Are they the owners’ own DCS system maintenance personnel?
PID parameter tuning is of course the owner’s responsibility; outsiders who do not understand the process cannot do it well.
Based on the current operating approach, there are two ways in which the PID parameters of the control loop can be set: 1. If the process engineers have high technical skills, are familiar with PID parameters, and have a good understanding of the DCS system, then the process engineering team can be entrusted with this task. 2. It is the responsibility of the instrumentation team; this can be personnel specialized in DCS or technical staff. However, it is necessary to work with the process engineers to confirm the adjustment effect.
Generally, large-scale installations are entrusted to professional commissioning personnel for calibration; this requires a high level of expertise that cannot be handled by ordinary instrument or process technicians.

Understanding the manufacturing processes and workflows, knowing the functions of P, I, and D and their impact on the system, as well as recognizing what kind of curves are desirable. But some highly skilled process operators also do it. Here, we use simple processes to handle it ourselves; if we can’t do it, we ask the DCS personnel to take care of it.
Set by process engineers, guided by DCS instrument personnel! Only the process engineers know the speed at which it operates and in case of emergencies. It can be the process technician who makes the changes
