Does a vortex flow meter require a bypass?
For devices such as flow meters and control valves that are directly installed on pipelines and involved in the pipeline transportation process, bypasses must be provided, as they serve to facilitate maintenance.

That means parking isn’t a big issue where you are. In chemical plants where parking is difficult, it’s foolish not to include bypass routes in the design. Think about what to do during maintenance? Five million for a single stop? If it doesn’t stop, it can’t be detected, and it’s impossible to control or settle the bill?
Whether a vortex flowmeter requires a bypass depends mainly on the medium being measured by the flowmeter, as well as whether it is used for control purposes or in interlock systems. If it is used solely for indication, a bypass is not necessary.
What does it mean to add a bypass? Is it a maintenance bypass (side line) provided for the convenience of pipeline maintenance, or is it a bypass used for flow regulation? A bypass has been installed for the flow meter; if there is fluid flowing through this bypass, how should the measurement accuracy of the flow meter be considered?
It depends on the specific circumstances; for example, in pipelines where materials tend to clump together, having a bypass doesn’t help much as the bypasses get clogged anyway.
If regular inspections without interruption are required, then it needs to be added
Flow meters that can be shut down in case of a failure, or those for which the cost of adding bypasses is too high, can be omitted; bypasses are generally not installed on utility pipelines (steam, circulating water, nitrogen, compressed air, primary water, wastewater, etc.)
According to Specification 3104, page 6, check that flow meters used for trade measurement should not have bypasses
There is no need for a bypass, as the regulations require that flow meters used for trade measurement not have a bypass – the main reason is to prevent factories from bypassing the flow meters and using them directly. It’s like your home water meter: no one would install a bypass for it, because if there was a bypass, then why use the water meter at all? Right? ! !
