The triggering variable is not a switch; it is the quantity that causes the change. A quantity that is typically measured solely to obtain a process indication signal is called a measured variable ; The quantity that is used for control adjustments based on the acquired signals is called the Initiating Variable; essentially, signals are obtained through measurement.
