After some thought, I decided to create a separate thread to discuss the issues related to level control instruments for medium and low pressure, low-tonnage boilers. To give an example: For a 20-ton, 1.6MPa steam boiler, is it reliable to use a magnetic flap level gauge plus a level transmitter as the control signal to regulate the liquid level? It seems not many people use it? ==We have used two-chamber balance containers with differential pressure transmitters; a pressure of around 2 kg is required for the level signal to be displayed. Errors in the signals are common when the tank is either underwater or full. It also takes a long time to establish normal differential pressure conditions, but it seems to be the standard approach used? Friends who have used both and made comparisons are welcome to share their experiences.

For the liquid phase, pressure is taken directly; the pressure tap pipes should be made as long as possible. For the gas phase, pressure is taken from the top of the boiler, with horizontal piping used, and the pressure tap pipes are routed in a curved pattern to increase their length. The liquid collection vertical pipe must first be filled with water. . . In the gas phase, it should be connected to the high-pressure side of the differential pressure gauge; that is, the gauge should be installed in the correct orientation to measure the liquid level.

For measuring the liquid level in boilers, a balance vessel combined with a transmitter is generally used for display and control; there is no issue where the liquid level signal can only be displayed when the pressure reaches around 2 kg. In the owner’s case, the instrument is faulty and requires repair by a qualified instrument technician. The liquid level at the site is generally measured using a glass plate level gauge........

There really is no more reliable level gauge than a differential pressure gauge. . . The principle is universal—when it comes to piping for pressure measurement, the key is to keep the sensor diaphragm at near-ambient temperature and to avoid introducing additional errors as much as possible. . When installing the pipes, make some horizontal bends; this helps with cooling and increases damping. . . Depending on the space conditions, bends can be made as desired
