Is it necessary to install an air storage tank for emergency shut-off valves, and are there any relevant standards?
Some emergency shut-off valves require the installation of a gas cylinder, while others do not; this is determined by the level of importance.
Normally, when double-acting actuators are used for interlocked valves, an air reservoir must be installed to provide the air necessary for the valve’s final operation during a low instrument air pressure interlock shutdown.
Clause 10.3.6.2 of SH/T 3005-2016 states that when the process specifically requires valves to remain in their position in the event of a failure of the instrument air supply, double-acting cylinder actuators should be used, along with an instrument air storage tank; the valve’s ability to maintain its position should not be less than 48 hours.

First, it depends on what type of cut-off valve you have; a double-cylinder one is necessary. In the event of an accident, a single-cylinder system remains in its initial state; the pre-load from the spring is sufficient, no instrument air is required, so why is there a need for an air storage tank?
In theory, an emergency shut-off valve should close when air is lost in an emergency situation, and it does not require a gas storage tank.
For installation at the outlet of storage tanks, a single-acting type that shuts off when air is lost is generally chosen; no air storage tank is required
