Regarding piston-type pneumatic actuators

I would like to ask: for a piston-type pneumatic actuator, once the open command is issued, the piston moves to one side; after the open command is no longer active, does the piston remain in that position? If so, does such a pneumatic actuator necessarily require two solenoids, one for the open command and one for the close command?

In the case of a double-acting type, it is common to use a two-position five-way solenoid valve for control; when the solenoid is powered, the valve is in one position, and when the power is cut off, it moves to another position.
The OP’s approach is correct, but a two-position five-way solenoid valve is sufficient to switch the on/off commands. Both types of five-way solenoid valves, such as 4V310 and 4M310, can be used.
It depends on what kind of actuator you have – single-acting or double-acting. If it’s single-acting, a three-way valve will suffice; if it’s double-acting, a five-way valve will work
It mainly depends on whether it is a single-acting or double-acting design.
