When it comes to steam turbine generators, one thinks of the DEH electro-hydraulic control system, the ETS emergency shutdown system, the TSI turbine monitoring system, and the ITCC unit control system. What are the differences in their usage? My understanding is as follows: when a turbine is used together with a generator to generate electricity in a power plant, DEH, ETS, and TSI are all needed; they operate together and cannot exist independently. If the turbine is used to drive the turbocompressor to generate power, then a DEH is not necessary; considering only the ITCC is sufficient. I’m not sure if my understanding is correct, so I hope experts can help analyze this for me

When a steam turbine coupled with a generator is used for power generation in a power plant, DEH, ETS, and TSI are required; these three work together as a set and cannot exist independently. This understanding is correct. If the turbine is used to drive the turbocompressor to generate power, then a DEH is not necessary; considering only the ITCC is sufficient. This understanding is somewhat insufficient; TSI is generally used with the Bentley 3500, and it is also employed in turbine-driven compressors. Perhaps to enhance safety, some compressors are equipped with dedicated overspeed protectors; after a 3-out-of-2 voting system, a signal is sent to the ITCC, which then triggers an interlocked shutdown. But speed regulation is done by the ITCC. For some cases, both 3-out-of-2 and interlocking are handled by ITCC. It may be due to inconsistent requirements for ITCC from different manufacturers.

Maybe I didn’t express myself clearly enough; here’s what I mean: when a turbine generates electricity, it is used together with a generator, right? Then the control systems for the turbine and generator must include DEH, ETS, TSI, DCS, etc., right? The DEH can be used for speed control. If it is a turbine-driven compressor, there are two turbines and the compressor as two separate devices, right? Then the control system of the turbine does not need to be equipped with a DEH; it is sufficient to have an ITCC installed on the compressor, along with a 3500 or 505 unit. In other words, the electrical control and speed regulation of the turbine can be achieved using the ITCC and 3500 units, so there is no need for a DEH anymore, right?
As I understand it, if electric-hydraulic actuators are not used, then a DEH is not necessary; some compressors do not have electric-hydraulic actuators and instead use pneumatic actuators.
What I’m referring to here is that when a turbine is paired with a compressor, the speed control system for the turbine should not use DEH, ETS, or TSE; instead, the speed control system in ITCC, or models 505 and 3500, can be used, as ITCC is capable of regulating speed and controlling surge
Actually, I’ve been talking here about the speed control function of steam turbines; it is used with DEH when they are used in conjunction with generators. But is DEH also necessary when they are used with compressors?
To explain further, when a turbine is paired with a compressor, can the turbine’s speed control system avoid using DEH and instead share an ITCC with the compressor?
When a turbine is equipped with a compressor, there is only one ITCC, with no DEH.
