Differences between DC and AC relays

When we talk about DC relays and AC relays, does the term DC and AC refer to the type of coil in the relay, or to the type of output contacts?
Refers to the type of output contact. For example, when ordering a relay, it will be specified that the contact rating is 240VAC/2A ； 36vdc/1a, etc.
Strictly speaking, it refers to the core type. The core of an AC relay has a choke, while that of a DC relay does not. When a DC relay is used with AC power, its contacts vibrate like those of a bell ； AC relays can actually be used for both AC and DC applications.
