There is an existing combustion furnace that uses acidic gas as the burning medium; its temperature can reach around 1,000 degrees. This furnace occasionally shuts down, and after it does, it is purged with air, resulting in significant fluctuations in temperature. Currently, the issue with the temperature-sensing component sleeves is quite troublesome: stainless steel is highly susceptible to corrosion, and other materials cannot withstand large temperature fluctuations. Have you come across such a problem before? What materials are they made of?

This type of operating condition indeed poses a challenge in selecting the appropriate instruments; we often encounter such problems, where a thermometer sleeve gets damaged after a short period of use.
Ceramic, silicon carbide, and silicon nitride are all fragile materials, and they also do not have good resistance to sudden changes in temperature. It is recommended to choose alloy steel instead.
It’s similar to the sulfur Claus furnace; we usually install a corundum thermocouple (if low temperatures are a requirement, use a K-type thermocouple; otherwise, go with an S-type one). Install another infrared temperature sensor with a ball valve and quartz glass at the front. Two for measuring temperature.
