The interface between the pressure or differential pressure transmitter and the process is generally at the primary valve of the pressure lead pipe. So, when performing maintenance on the transmitter, is it required to shut down this primary valve as part of the maintenance process? There are times when the position of the one-way valve is indeed quite high, which is inconvenient. How do people usually deal with this?
We used to divide them in the same way too – process pipes with valves at the beginning – but in reality, no one takes care of you during the processing stage; it’s still you who has to climb up and close the valves yourself.
Processes related to the valve before it are assigned to the process department, those related to the valve after it are assigned to the instrumentation department; switches are handled by the instrumentation department, while changes related to operation are handled by the workshop.
Large companies with standardized management have clear divisions of labor, while smaller companies generally do not make such distinctions; the instrument technicians handle everything on their own, as it is considered that everything relates to instruments. You can decide for yourself whether to turn it off; consider factors such as high temperature and pressure, as well as flammability, explosiveness, and corrosivity. If these factors are ruled out, turning off only the secondary valve has no impact.
If I were in the process engineering field, I wouldn’t go to close the valves either – what kind of people are those in the instrumentation department?
High temperature and pressure, along with flammable, explosive, and corrosive pressure transmitters, are indeed dangerous; dealing with them makes one feel anxious.
