The non-live conductive parts or enclosures of electrical equipment are reliably connected to the ground using metal wires or conductors of sufficient capacity. When a person touches a live enclosure, the body acts as a parallel branch in the grounding circuit. Since the resistance of the human body is much greater than that of the grounding resistance, the current flowing through the body is very small, thereby preventing electric shock accidents.
Measures to ground the metal casing of the equipment. It prevents high currents from passing through the human body in case of insulation failure or when the metal casing becomes charged under unexpected circumstances, thereby ensuring personal safety.
Connecting the metal casing of electrical equipment, which is not energized under normal conditions, to a grounding device properly is called protective grounding.
