On-site natural gas wells are pressurized individually; after the gas emerges from the well, it passes through a separator, a flow meter, and a compressor before being sent to the gas collection station. The flow meters used at these wells are usually gas vortex flow meters or gas turbine flow meters. After comparison, it has been preliminarily determined that the pulsating flow caused by the reciprocating motion of the compressor has an impact on the accurate measurement provided by the flow meters, resulting in overestimations of flow rates of around 90 cubic meters per hour. Is there any way to address this issue? Due to limited on-site conditions, the flow meter is located about 20 meters away from the compressor. Is it possible to solve this issue by installing additional devices or modifying the process?
If this phenomenon occurs in new projects, technical upgrades can be considered. If the problem arises the day after, based on the operating principles of the flow meter, it is necessary to start by checking the interior of the primary instrument as well as possible leaks or blockages in the sampling pipes; once the cause of the problem is identified, then measures can be discussed.
