May I ask if it is possible to use the tag number instead of the factory serial number when issuing a report for instrument calibration?

For instruments that are not subject to mandatory inspection, pressure gauges that are required by regulations to undergo regular checks still need to be inspected periodically. A third party suggested that we use the device identifier as the numbering in the reports, which would save a lot of trouble by eliminating the need for a separate certificate for each instrument. Has anyone done this before? Is it feasible in practice?
This shouldn’t be possible; each pressure gauge comes with its own serial number upon leaving the factory, and the ranges of the pressure gauges used on site vary as well. When a report is generated, it is calibrated based on the range of that particular pressure gauge.
