We are responsible for the general contracting work; the solenoid valves provided by the general contracting company are ASCO’s EFG531H301MO models, which do not come with explosion-proof wiring boxes. An explosion-proof sleeve is used to connect them to the transmitter. Is this in compliance with safety standards? Does it also have explosion-proof properties?
Saying \"explosion-proof\" is too general; there are many types of explosion-proof designs, and it is necessary to determine which type you have in order to decide whether it meets the requirements. However, solenoid valves are generally flameproof. In the case of flameproof design, according to the principles of flame protection, there is no explosion-proof sealing joint at the connection point between the flexible tube and the solenoid valve; it is possible to use a flexible tube with such a joint, or one can purchase one separately – having that joint will meet the requirements.
There’s no problem with that. What is your explosion protection zone? What explosion protection standard is required? Position feedback is an explosion-proof junction box. It’s not that an explosion-proof feature necessarily requires an explosion-proof junction box on the solenoid valve.
Could you explain in more detail why? I’ve actually seen this situation where the solenoid valve is connected directly to such a limit switch by a single wire; I was quite puzzled at the time, wondering if it was connected incorrectly

For Zone 2 explosion protection, EXDIIBT4 is sufficient. The plan is to use explosion-proof flexible tubing to connect the solenoid valve and the indicator; in theory this should provide explosion protection, but it’s not clear whether the safety authorities will approve it
For explosion protection, as long as both ends have sealed connectors, it’s fine if the wires in the middle are exposed. It seems that the people from the safety supervision agency don’t check things that closely either; they can’t even notice the absence of a couple of connectors
