The new unit is equipped with a set of orifice plates for diameter measurement; the manufacturer supplies only the orifice plates, without the straight pipe sections, which are drilled on-site. The requirement for taking pressure readings at different radii is that it should be D upstream and D/2 downstream; does this mean that the upstream value must be twice that of the downstream value? As shown in Figure 1, assuming a 24-inch orifice plate with an inner pipe diameter of 591.1 mm, the distance for the upstream pressure tap is between 532 and 650 mm (D±0.1D). When β > 0.6, the distance for the downstream pressure tap is between 290 and 301 mm (0.49D–0.51D). If the distance for the upstream pressure tap is 640 mm and that for the downstream pressure tap is 295 mm, then both distances fall within the allowable range; however, this does not satisfy the requirement that the upstream distance be twice that of the downstream distance. Is this acceptable?
I didn’t understand. Is this orifice plate used for measuring flow rate? It is best to consult the orifice plate manufacturer or check the installation requirements in the user manual. For reference.
This specified distance should refer to the lower limit; values higher than that should be fine.
