Does SIS require a SIL3 safety certification? Are there any regulations regarding DCS and GDS safety certifications? Under what circumstances is it necessary to use GDS?
Choosing mainstream brands for DCS and GDS will be fine. Specification 50493 states that alarms can be connected to the DCS, but according to Safety Supervision Bureau Document 116, it is better to use separate ones.
It explains whether a GDS system requires CCCF certification; when the GDS system is used solely for warning and alarm purposes without being involved in fire protection interconnections, the alarm control unit can utilize a separately installed microprocessor-based electrical product, and there is no need to obtain a CCCF test report for fire protection products. If the signals from combustible gas detectors in the GDS system are to be used for fire protection interconnection, the alarm control unit must be CCCF-certified, and the signals shall be transmitted to the fire control room.
