May I ask, can carbon steel be used for 10% sodium chloride solutions at room temperature? If that won’t work, what kind of steel is good?
With such a high concentration of sodium chloride solution, it’s actually not suitable to use any type of steel, as the presence of large amounts of chloride ions leads to corrosion of the steel when it comes into contact with saltwater and air, due to various factors. In such cases, if the temperature is not high and the pressure is not high, it is best to use a container with a lining. If the temperature is high and there is a certain level of pressure, the following materials should be used: titanium, Hastelloy, and enamel (with temperature restrictions).
