It is an electromagnetic flowmeter used for measuring flow rate; it operates on a four-wire system, with two wires for the 24V power supply and two wires for the current output that is sent to the DCS. Now, in order to control the ball mill using a flow meter, the manager provided an intelligent transmitter model XMT604B. This transmitter has 220V voltage, and it also has a relay that is supposed to be connected to the ball mill, serving to send signals to it. The main intelligent transmitter also has a 4–20mA signal, with positive and negative terminals, as well as two output terminals. The problem now is how to transmit the flow meter’s signal to this intelligent transmitter, while also having the flow rate displayed on the DCS. How do I wire it? This morning, I connected a cable: one end of it was connected to the current output terminal of the flow meter, and the other end was connected to the 4–20MA output of the smart transmitter. I connected the two wires from the flow meter’s current output to the two wires for output on the smart transmitter. As a result, the DCS and the computer showed that there was no flow. Did I make a mistake in the wiring? Please, experts, help me – teach me how to wire it correctly.
You should contact the instrument manufacturer for consultation; when it comes to electrical devices and instruments, one must be very careful, as even the slightest mistake can lead to serious consequences.
Why make it so complicated? Just put everything into DCS and create a loop, isn’t that enough?
As I understand it, the XMT604B intelligent controller provided by the management needs to be connected to a flow signal first; this signal is used for comparison with the set value, thereby controlling the ball mill. At the same time, the XMT604B should also provide a transmitted flow signal to be displayed on the DCS system. First, you need to understand the wiring schematic of the instrument; only by knowing how it works can you wire it correctly.
It’s simple. There are two options: one is to use a signal distributor. The flow meter signal goes to the signal distributor, which splits it into two paths: one path goes to the DCS and the other to the digital display. Alternatively, they can be connected in series directly. The flow meter, DCS digital display, and others are connected in series directly. The signal is a 4-20mA current signal; since it is a current, connecting them in series results in the same circuit behavior. Just pay attention to the positive and negative poles

Find a safety barrier with two inputs and two outputs; the signal from one input goes to the flow meter, while the signals from the other two outputs go to the DCS. Just go straight to the transmitter; the safety barrier requires power supply.
