Currently, feeding is still done manually based on human judgment, which is quite frequent and involves many steps; it is being considered whether it might be possible to switch to an automatic feeding mode. The difficulty with automatic feeding lies in the issues related to the selection and installation of components for object detection; let’s pool our ideas – does anyone have any good suggestions?
I currently have a preliminary idea to use high-intensity light for photoelectric detection; the advantage is that there’s no need to worry about dust. However, since the materials vary widely, I’m concerned that sticky substances might block the photoelectric sensors.

I recommend using a tuning fork switch or a radio frequency admittance switch for control: an alarm triggers feeding at low levels, and shutdown occurs at high levels. These types of switches are relatively stable, but there is a possibility of false alarms; therefore, a 2-out-of-2 interlock system can be used. As for the laser-based level sensors you mentioned, they don’t seem to be very effective, as dust has a significant impact on them, unless it’s particles that do not contain dust.
The properties of the materials are quite varied; there are powdered forms, those that contain strips, and there may also be sticky materials.

If the viscosity is low, an RF admittance level switch can be used; for materials with high viscosity and containing powder, a radiation level gauge can be employed, or an ultrasonic level switch can be tried. Other level gauges are likely not suitable for use in such situations.
