The programmable valve is equipped with a Turck 24V proximity switch, which is located in an explosion-proof area. Is it necessary to install a safety barrier on the DCS? The manufacturer says that a 24V proximity switch does not require such a barrier, while one is needed for 8V switches – is that correct?
A 24V proximity switch is definitely not intrinsically safe; using a safety barrier is of no use either. It can only be designed in an explosion-proof format. If it has explosion protection, then it can be used in explosive areas; otherwise, one needs to check whether it can still be used.
Just check the explosion-proof marking on the instrument; an “ia” designation is required
Use flame-proof ones; flame-proof types do not require safety barriers
