How to wire the current signal from the signal generator to the valve positioner, and whether to use an active or passive approach. How do two-wire and four-wire instruments generate a 4-20mA signal? Are there any pictures of on-site wiring?
Most conventional intelligent positioners are two-wire type; they are passive and require only the current signal ± to be connected properly
Take a good look at the symbols on each terminal; you’ll be able to tell. For the positioner, select the passive 4-20mA output. Use clips to connect a multimeter and test whether there is 24V in the circuit, so as to verify if the correct terminals have been selected.
