Selection of level gauges for liquid chlorine storage tanks

A certain design institute specializes in designing facilities for the chlor-alkali industry. In the past, when it came to measuring the liquid level in spherical tanks, there was basically no effective solution for achieving accurate measurement of the tank’s liquid level. We have used differential pressure methods in the past, as it is very difficult to take pressure readings beneath the spherical tank – holes cannot be made in the tank. Therefore, we can only indirectly determine the liquid level inside the tank by measuring the pressure of the liquid at the material inlet and outlet (sewage outlet). The accuracy of such measurements is quite low. Additionally, the starting and stopping of the pump at the outlet (sewage outlet) causes pressure fluctuations in the lower flange, which means that this method for measuring the liquid level does not provide a reliable solution. Ultrasonic and radar level gauges have also been used for measurement, but the results have not been very good. The factory has been using the external level measurement products from Dinghua Electronics Co., Ltd. since 2001, and the results have been good. Its most prominent feature is its easy installation. The second feature relates to liquid chlorine: the plant has not used products from Dinghua Company on its liquid chlorine storage tanks before. As is well known, liquid chlorine is a highly toxic liquid that is also somewhat corrosive. When choosing a measuring instrument, it is very difficult to make a decision, and problems such as leaks can occur; if this happens, it can cause significant harm at the site. The external level gauge of Dinghua Electronics Co., Ltd. solves this problem effectively, as it measures the liquid level outside the tank. Therefore, external level gauges were used in all subsequent projects. To date, over a dozen external-type level gauges for Dinghua Company have been designed for this project, and in future work, this product will be promoted in the chlorine industry.
