Smart measuring instruments play a crucial role in dimension inspection, capable of performing hundreds or even thousands of such inspections per second. The inspection data is displayed on the screen at a frequency of 2 to 3 times per second; this frequency is chosen because it is optimal for the human eye to perceive. In addition to the LCD display built into the meter itself, each smart meter can also be equipped with an external display. An external display screen is a remote display device whose main function is to allow for the remote viewing of the measured data. Operators at various workstations can view the current measurement values of the items being tested at any time. They can also check these values immediately when audible and visual alerts indicate that the measurements are out of range, without having to go to the instrument itself to obtain the data. This makes it very useful for adjustments in multiple workstations. There are many types of intelligent measuring instruments, each suitable for different applications. Depending on the specific requirements of the device, external display screens of various types and sizes can be installed; alternatively, no such screens may be used, and the data can be viewed through the LCD screen built into the measuring instrument itself. This article provides a brief introduction to several common types of external display screens used with intelligent measuring instruments. Digital tube display: The digital tube display used in single-axis diameter measuring instruments can show the measurement data in real time. In addition, this type of display has two additional buttons: a power button and an auto/manual button. The switch button is used to turn the display on or off, while the automatic/manual button enables switching between remote automatic control and manual control. The digital displays used in width and thickness measuring instruments show the width and thickness values respectively; LED large screens can also be used – for more details, please refer to the introduction on LED screens. The digital display of the biaxial micrometer shows four types of information: Direction A, Direction B, average value, and ellipticity. The digital display of the straightness measuring instrument shows Position 1, Position 2, Position 3, and the straightness dimension respectively. In addition to this digital tube display, straightness measuring instruments also come with large LED displays; these will be shown when discussing the LED displays. LED display screens: Large LED displays are usually quite big and installed in prominent, high locations so that people in various areas can view the information at any time. Diameter meters, rebar diameter meters, side length measuring instruments, width measuring instruments, thickness measuring instruments, length measuring instruments, straightness measuring instruments, profileometers, and the like can all be equipped with this type of display screen, which shows different information depending on the device. The large LED display makes it easy to identify the current deviation status by showing colors: it is green when within standards, red when above the standard, and yellow when below the standard. In addition, it also displays the operating status. Below are examples of the LED large-screen displays on some commonly used intelligent measuring instruments. In addition to standard LED display screens, customizations can also be made according to specific requirements; the one shown in the image below is an LED display screen for an eight-axis diameter measuring instrument, customized for a steel plant. An external display screen allows multiple operators to conveniently monitor the measurement status from a distance, stay informed at their workstations, adjust the production process, and achieve fast and efficient manufacturing.
