According to the provisions of GB/T50493-2019, for particularly important systems in Class I power load categories, a backup power supply system (EPS) is required. Flammable and toxic gas detection systems are crucial for safety and protecting personnel’s health; therefore, they are considered among the particularly important systems in category 1 electrical loads. In such cases, an EPS supply is required as a backup power source to ensure the continuous operation of the system. .
For loads classified as first-class or particularly important loads, an EPS is absolutely necessary.
Where does it say that an EPS power supply must be installed? According to Article 3.0.9 of GB/T50493, it should be treated as a particularly important load under category I electrical loads, and it is advisable to use a UPS power supply system for power supply. According to Section 4.2.2 of SH/T 3038, for those particularly important loads classified as primary loads, in addition to being powered by dual power supplies, an emergency power supply must also be provided; no other loads shall be connected to the emergency power supply system. UPS is an emergency power supply; why wouldn’t that be the case?
Is a UPS considered an emergency power supply?
Refer to 4.2.3 of SH/T3038 – the following power sources can be used as emergency power sources: a) DC battery systems; b) UPS systems; c) EPS systems; d) Rapidly startable generator sets: 1) Self-starting diesel generator sets; 2) Self-starting gas generator sets; 3) Other types of generator sets that are independent of the normal power supply. EPS is a fire emergency power supply, and it serves a different purpose than UPS; it is recommended to use UPS as the emergency power supply for DCS.
