Prevention first, life above all----------------------------------------- On June 26th, the acceptance meeting for the project aimed at localizing major equipment in China’s petrochemical industry – specifically, the localization of generic I/O modules and intelligent wiring boxes for petrochemical plants – was successfully held in Hangzhou. The FAT acceptance testing for the OCS industrial optical bus control system of Cracker No. 9 in the ethylene plant of the Tianjin Nangang 1.2 million tons per year ethylene and downstream high-end new materials industry cluster project (hereinafter referred to as the “Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Project”) has been completed, marking the successful completion of the acceptance testing for the project aimed at localizing the general-purpose I/O devices and intelligent junction boxes used in petrochemical plants. At the meeting, leaders and experts carefully listened to the progress report submitted by Hangzhou HollySys Automation Co., Ltd. regarding the implementation of the project. They thoroughly reviewed the testing procedures and test report descriptions for Cracker No. 9, the internal test reports and factory acceptance test reports for the domestic DCS general-purpose I/O units and intelligent junction boxes, as well as the \"Installation Guide Manual for Intelligent Junction Boxes of Cracker No. 9 in Ethylene Plants.\" After thorough discussion, it was concluded that the products met the quality specifications and the technical requirements specified in the project contract, and that all the necessary acceptance documents were available; therefore, they met the requirements of the Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Project. The participants unanimously agreed that the project had passed the factory acceptance test. Aiming at the goal of localizing core equipment in the critical energy sector, HollySys works closely with project owners to carry out targeted research and development efforts, in line with the technical requirements for the stable operation of the projects as well as actual business needs, thereby promoting the localized use of OCS industrial optical bus control systems in typical petrochemical facilities. The Tianjin Nangang ethylene project uses the HOLLiAS MACS® DCS system, with a total of 105,110 I/O points; of these, 11,000 points make use of HOLLiAS’ OCS industrial optical bus control system. This system integrates advanced Industrial Light Bus technology with software-defined I/O technology. The iDTU chassis is placed directly in the industrial field environment, and high-reliability, high-speed passive fiber optic networks are used for remote signal transmission, thereby reducing the need for traditional copper cables significantly. It simplifies the engineering design process from field devices to controllers. For users in industries such as petrochemicals, coal chemicals, fine chemicals, new materials, pharmaceuticals, and oil and gas, this system can help reduce the overall cost of instrument control systems by over 30%, cut the space required for cabinets by over 90%, shorten the project timeline for instrument control systems by over 50%, and save a significant amount of human resources.

Traditional instrument control systems involve controllers that perform calculations and carry out control functions within cabinet rooms (FAR); these controllers also bring together the associated units or devices. Even in the event of a failure in the communication cable lines or a disruption in communication, the controllers can still operate and control automatically. In the Hilscher OCS industrial optical bus control system, conventional instruments are still used on site; the cables are connected to the on-site iDTU chassis and then transmitted to the FAR via fiber optics. By combining current DCS and field bus technologies, this approach saves on cables and investment costs.
