I am a senior student about to graduate, and I’m hoping that someone with expertise can help me out with some aspects of my graduation thesis. The topic of my graduation project is the design of a real-time production monitoring system based on DCS. As I am truly a poor student in engineering with limited professional knowledge, and I also work as a civil servant in a remote area, I hope that if my questions seem too naive to those more experienced experts, they will still kindly offer their guidance and show understanding. . . (I, like most people, just wanted to complete my graduation project and get my diploma; I didn’t aim for anything too fancy.) . . ) The first thing was that the teacher asked me to first develop a framework for the paper, and then find several examples from control engineering to use as illustrations. Personal opinion: DCS is a process control system, while MES is a management system. In a chemical company with certain automation requirements, production is impossible without DCS/PLC, but MES is not essential. MES is a management platform; as companies grow and more elements need to be integrated, MES helps improve a company’s production efficiency. DCS is generally divided into three levels: the control level, the operation level, and the management level; the management level can be connected to MES.
