It was learned on May 15, 2017, that in order to facilitate the construction of Hubei Sanning Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 600,000 tons per year ethylene glycol production facility, Yang Xiaodong, deputy director of the Yichang Environmental Protection Bureau, led a team to the Sanning company’s site on May 2 to conduct investigations and offer opinions or suggestions regarding the preliminary work for the environmental impact assessment of the project. The project proposed by Sanning Company to adjust the raw material structure for ammonia synthesis and produce 600,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol is a key construction project under Hubei Province’s 13th Five-Year Plan. With a total investment of 10 billion yuan, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of 5.16 billion yuan and an annual profit of 880 million yuan once completed. The project involves replacing the urea production capacity of Sanning Company’s plant and the synthetic ammonia production capacity of Tiantian Company, carrying out energy-saving upgrades without increasing the total ammonia production capacity. It also involves phasing out the existing atmospheric-pressure batch fixed-bed gasifiers, atmospheric-pressure desulfurization units, high-pressure ammonia synthesis systems, as well as the synthetic ammonia and alcohol production units at Tiantian Company’s plant. The new ethylene glycol project utilizes the internationally advanced pressurized coal slurry gasification technology; the syngas produced can be used not only for the manufacture of ethylene glycol but also for the production of synthetic ammonia and urea.
