A combination of dispersant and demulsifier was used in an attempt to improve the separation of tar from ammonia water and to reduce the oil content in the ammonia water. However, no improvement was observed after its use; the oil-water interface in the separation tank became thicker, the upper layer of ammonia water contained more oil, and its color varied between yellow and gray. The separation efficiency even declined. The water content in the tar remained below 4% at the outlet of the separation tank. Changing the manufacturer of the chemicals did not help either. I would appreciate any suggestions from those with more experience Also, now it’s impossible to stop adding the chemical; once addition stops, the tar-ammonia separation tank becomes chaotic and cannot separate into layers at all.
It is recommended to first conduct tests in the laboratory with a small scale, to determine which combination offers the best separation results and cost-effectiveness. Once that is determined, it can then be used in the actual installation site; this approach is safer. Otherwise, the problems you mentioned will arise – it’s not possible to proceed without using it
