This is a common problem in many methanol or LNG plants that use coke oven gas; what blocks the compressors at the later stages is mainly a mixture of naphthalene and tar. The commonly used method at present is temperature-controlled adsorption to remove these impurities; depending on the requirements, naphthalene can be reduced to 1–5 milligrams, and tar to less than 5 milligrams. After the preliminary treatment of coke oven gas in the chemical processing stage, tar, naphthalene, and dust still precipitate during compression. At present, our facility uses the TSA method for removal. The effect is okay.
