The plant-wide air compression station for Qinghai Damei Coal Industry’s project for the comprehensive utilization of exhaust gases to produce olefins was successfully completed. On the morning of November 3, the plant-wide air compression station for this project was completed successfully; it was built under the general contract of Baosteel Engineering Company. Bai Yongqiang, Party Secretary, Chairman, and Chief Project Commander of Qinghai Damei Coal Industry, stated that the air compressor station system across the plant supplies 0.8Mpa of instrument air and process air to the thermal power generation units, olefin production facilities, and other utility systems. The operation of these air compressor stations marks the beginning of valve, instrument, and interlock testing for various facilities, as well as the start of pipeline purging in those systems, all of which provide essential support for the proper functioning of each system. On November 2, the polyethylene unit of the Qinghai Damei Coal Industry project underwent acceptance testing for its main structure; the powder resin processing unit, the granular resin mixing unit, and all associated facilities passed the inspection successfully in one go. The civil structure of the powder resin treatment unit in the polyethylene plant of the Big American Olefins project reaches 60 meters; its upper steel structure reaches 30 meters, giving the total height of the building 90 meters ; The basic layout of underlying devices is massive and complex, requiring high precision ; The first floor is filled with girders, requiring precise dimensions and positioning; the ceiling height is as high as 10.1 meters, and the load-bearing system needs to be evaluated by experts ; The superstructure adopts a steel-reinforced column design. The reinforced concrete structure is complex, with rebar, embedded components, and large anchor bolts all needing to be installed simultaneously, along with formwork – making construction quite challenging. The olefin production project based on the comprehensive utilization of exhaust gases from Qinghai Damei Coal Industry utilizes some of the regional methanol resources derived from projects that produce methanol from exhaust gases generated in the industrial park’s smelting processes; the project does not directly use the exhaust gases from the park’s smelting operations to produce methanol. The methanol used as raw material for this project comes from Qinghai Guilu Chemical Co., Ltd. (1 million tons per year), Western Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (600,000 tons per year), and the Golmud Refinery of CNPC’s Qinghai Oilfield (300,000 tons per year); agreements for the supply of methanol have been signed with all of these parties. The construction of the Qinghai Damei Coal Industry’s waste gas comprehensive utilization project for olefin production requires an investment of 12.7 billion yuan. The project is located in the West Area of the Ganhe Industrial Park, within the Xining Economic and Technological Development Zone in Qinghai Province. Construction began on March 23rd, with a capacity to produce 1.8 million tons per year of olefins from methanol, 300,000 tons per year of polyethylene, and 400,000 tons per year of polypropylene, along with the necessary utility systems, auxiliary facilities, and external infrastructure. The project uses MTO-grade methanol as raw material, and through production units such as methanol to olefins, olefin conversion, MTBE/1-butene, polyethylene, and polypropylene, it produces polyethylene and polypropylene products, with MTBE and C4/C6 as by-products. The MTO combined unit in this project utilizes the DMTO technology developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was EPC-general contracted by Sinopec Luoyang Engineering Co., Ltd.
Construction on Project 3.23 has begun. At present, the air supplied by the air compressor station only meets some of the requirements for purging and instrument calibration; it seems there is still a long way to go before calibration can be carried out, so it might be a bit early to say that construction has started.
An MTO without coal is a costly investment; when the air compressors start operating, it can only be considered as the beginning of the purging process. In this season, there are effective measures for carrying out purging; otherwise, people will freeze to death
