I have seen several systems for phenol-amine recovery, and most of them feature a design in which there is a balance in terms of water volume but an imbalance in ammonia levels; the ammonia concentration in the water exceeds the designed values by a significant margin, requiring continuous addition of alkali, which leads to considerable waste

The process operations are still being optimized to see if it can be reduced to around the design value. There are 2 directions ; 1. Increase the capacity of the deacidification tower and recycle some water; however, the consumption of alkali for energy purposes is likely to be high. Yet, using the recycled water as seal water would be appropriate, as it allows for the use of a large amount of clean water, though care must be taken regarding ion concentration ; 2. Re-distill the ammonia condensate; this method should be relatively reasonable, but it needs to be verified.
