We have a powder containing coking substances; what is the best drying method to use?
For powders containing caking substances, the drying method must take into account heat sensitivity and the prevention of caking. For this type of material, fluidized bed drying or vacuum drying can be considered. Fluidized bed drying is an effective drying method that allows for good temperature control during the drying process, thereby preventing coking and sintering of the material. At the same time, the characteristics of fluidized bed drying include high heat exchange efficiency, short drying time, and uniform heating of the material. Vacuum drying allows the drying process to take place at low temperatures, which effectively prevents the thermal decomposition or thermal oxidation of coked substances. At the same time, the drying process under vacuum conditions can also reduce the oxygen in the air, thereby lowering the likelihood of coking and oxidation. Both of the above methods can be considered; the specific choice should be determined based on actual circumstances and requirements. .
It’s fairly feasible for use in laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry. The owner’s method is likely industrial-scale production; it probably isn’t feasible on a large scale. I’m not sure whether flash drying or the spray drying tower used in fine chemical industries would work.
We used disk dryers before, but the results were not very good.
