On April 30, 2021, Boiler B in the gasification workshop of the sixth factory was put into operation as planned; by July 1, it had been running for 60 days. According to the scheduled maintenance cycle, it was necessary to shut down this boiler and switch to using Boiler A. However, Furnace A for gasification was shut down for maintenance on June 11, and the maintenance staff found severe scaling inside the equipment of System A; the nature of the scale had changed, making cleaning significantly more difficult. To ensure a smooth transition in furnace switching times, it has been decided by the branch factory and workshop to extend the operating time of Furnace B, on the condition that its stable operation is maintained. On June 18, the on-site operators noticed significant fluctuations in the composition of Furnace B. They immediately contacted the instrumentation staff to determine the cause. After ruling out issues related to the instruments, they promptly reported the problem to the workshop management. Song Juntao, the process director of the gasification workshop at the sixth factory, rushed to the site as soon as he received the news to investigate the cause. By considering factors such as oxygen content, theoretical slurry volume, actual slurry volume, and on-site slag samples, it was determined that system pressure has an impact on the oxygen content, leading to frequent abnormal occurrences. After two hours of continuous adjustment by the on-site operators, the concentrations of various components in the syngas returned to normal. The on-site staff reported no abnormalities in the slag sample, and Furnace B began to operate more steadily. To ensure sufficient maintenance time for Furnace A, the gasification workshop has focused its efforts on maintaining the stable operation of Furnace B. The workshop strictly regulates the slag samples on site through the central control system, and keeps an eye on all relevant data and any abnormalities; should anything unusual occur, it immediately seeks guidance from the workshop. On July 6, Gasification Unit B was shut down after operating for a total of 66 days and 7 hours and 24 minutes – the longest operating period since the start of operations at the Jiujiang project. This achievement is the result of the concerted efforts of all the staff in the gasification workshop. During the online furnace transfer, the team worked hard without complaining about the difficulties or fatigue, advancing steadily according to the scheduled timeline to ensure the successful completion of the online transfer between Furnaces A and B.
On September 24, 2020, the first refractory brick was successfully laid in Gasifier A, marking the official start of the furnace construction work. To ensure the quality of furnace construction, the project department, in collaboration with the Sixth Factory, established a furnace construction team to address quality and safety issues throughout the process. A summary was prepared daily to promptly resolve any problems that arose during construction. On October 31, Gasifier A passed the acceptance inspection, and the construction of Gasifier A was successfully completed. At this point, the gasifier enters the furnace drying stage.
At 8:59 a.m. on February 20, the one-time feeding of the B gasification furnace at Jiujiang Xinlianxin was successful, marking the official entry into the phase of operation with two furnaces for both alcohol and ammonia production. This signifies that Jiujiang Company’s production system is now ready for full-capacity operation. To ensure the successful operation of the gasification furnace, various units strictly controlled the construction quality in the early stages, keeping proper records of pipeline installation and oxygen pipe welding at the site, so that any issues can be identified and addressed later on. For each task such as individual and combined testing of the equipment, furnace construction and drying, water system commissioning, and interlock debugging, clear responsibilities are assigned to specific individuals, with personnel at all positions on duty around the clock. Building on the successful feeding of Material A into the production system, the team kept a close eye on the main control display, continuously recording any fluctuations in the system to provide valuable insights for feeding Material B into the system.
